Grace Lin And Alvina Ling: The BFF Episode

February 5, 2017 by Colby Sharp   3 comments

Last year I got an email from Newbery Honor winning author Grace Lin. She had an idea for an episode of The Yarn. I loved the idea, but it sounded tricky. Lots of moving pieces. I figured that it wouldn’t hurt to try. I’m so glad I decided to roll with Grace’s idea.

This episode includes:

  • Grace reading the email she sent me with the idea for this episode
  • An interview with Grace’s BFF (and editor) Alvina Ling
  • An ending that may require tissues

    Talk about pulling heartstrings…
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both Grace and Alvina (Alvina more than once) and had heard the beautiful story of their friendship, and though I knew Greg had passed away, I didn’t know about Grace’s husband. Such heartbreak mixed with such beauty. Thank you for sharing this, Colby 🙂

Loved listening to this–so moving. And what a friendship. So glad they can be there for each other!

I have been a Grace Lin fan for a long time. Love all her books. I also knew of her friendship and working relationship with Alvina. Thank you for sharing this story. My favorite episode yet of The Yarn. Keep them coming!
